Client Story

“There’s always someone there for you when you need them.”

Barb

Long-time MePACS client lives alone in the Gippsland region of Victoria and knows the importance of having immediate help available, at any time of the day or night.

Barb values the sense of security that her MePACS Home Alarm provides, and she’s grateful for the support she's received during emergencies.

When every second counts

Barb’s trust in MePACS was put to the test when she experienced a mild heart attack.

“I felt like I had someone gripping around my arm, and so I thought ‘I think I’d better do something about this’,” she recalls.

Without hesitation, Barb pressed the button on her MePACS pendant.

A MePACS Emergency Response Operator immediately arranged an ambulance and contacted Barb’s nominated emergency contacts.

“She organised straightaway for an ambulance to come and also contacted my roundabout care,” Barb says. “They came to sit with me until the ambulance arrived. That was just very reassuring, that you know there’s always someone there for you when you need them.”

This wasn’t the only time Barb needed to rely on her MePACS alarm. She recalls a fall she had one morning.

“I had been up early in the morning and went to go back to bed. I tripped as I came back into the bedroom and hit my head on the bottom of the bed. I thought ‘Oops, I’m looking under the bed and I shouldn’t be here’ and again I pressed the button,” she says.

MePACS responded immediately and arranged an ambulance. MePACS also let Barb’s neighbours know that she needed help.

Barb also appreciates that MePACS responds promptly when she’s unable to get up on her own.

“If I do fall, they know now that I can’t get up on my own, and so they send an ambulance. I’m so grateful that they pick me up and get me on my way again,” Barb explains.

A daily check-in for peace of mind

In addition to her home alarm system, Barb enjoys the peace of mind that comes with her daily check-in call from MePACS.

“Every morning, I press the button… That’s if I don’t forget,” Barb laughs.

“Sometimes I forget, but I’ve got very friendly people who ring me and say, ‘You forgot to ring.’ That’s good. It’s just another way they keep an eye on me.”

This daily call not only ensures that Barb is okay but also allows her to feel connected to the MePACS team, reinforcing her sense of security.

The personal touch that makes a difference

What stands out most to Barb is the personal care she receives from the MePACS team.

Barb appreciates the reassurance that, no matter who answers her call, she’s always treated with kindness and respect.

“No matter who it is that answers you, they all care, and that’s very precious, especially when you’re getting older and you’re on your own.”

A lifeline for independent living

Despite her age and health concerns, Barb continues to live confidently and independently in her own home. The security she feels from having her MePACS alarm is invaluable, and she recommends MePACS to anyone who values peace of mind.

“It’s just the assurance to know that there’s someone there always for you,” Barb reflects.

“That’s why you need to have one.”
