HCP Funded
Personal Alarms

A Home Care Package can include a personal alarm to support your safety and independence. MePACS is an approved HCP provider for personal alarms and 24/7 monitoring services.
FUNDING

Are HCP Alarms Free?

Under the HCP program, personal alarms are eligible under goods, equipment and assistive technology (GEAT).

Whether a Home Care Package covers the full cost of a personal alarm and 24/7 monitoring depends on your package budget and care needs.

Your Home Care Provider will assess your individual needs and determine if the costs can be fully or partially funded within your allocated package.

How to apply for an HCP funded alarm

Getting a personal alarm through a Home Care Package requires an assessment and approval, which can take a bit of time. It is an important step to ensure you receive the right support for your needs.
Apply for an assessment
To determine your HCP eligibility and care needs you need to apply for a My Aged Care assessment.
You can apply online or call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422.
Complete assessment
Assessments are done in-person, usually at your home by a healthcare professional, such as a nurse or social worker. It usually takes 1–3 hours and you can have a support person present.
Receive approval
Once you receive your approval letter, you will need to wait for a Home Care Package to become available.
Depending on the priority you're given, it can take 3-15 months.
Order your alarm
When a package has been assigned to you, you will receive a referral code.
You, or your chosen Home Care Provider, can then order your MePACS alarm using the referral code.

HCP Funded Alarm FAQs

Is it possible to change or add to the MePACS alarms funded by my Home Care Package?

Yes. To learn more and find out if you're eligible, feel free to contact us to discuss your situation.

What are nominated contacts and how many do I need?

Nominated contacts are people who you trust and can assist you in an emergency. They should be available and willing to assist you.

Nominated contacts can be family members, friends or trusted neighbours. They should have access to your home, or you may choose to have a key safe for easy access.

In an emergency, MePACS may call your nominated contacts to check on your welfare during the day or night.

You can nominate up to three people as your contacts. While we prefer to have at least one nominated contact on your file, don't worry if you're unable to provide one — we will still be happy to welcome you to the MePACS family.

How do I access My Aged Care?

The first step to access government-funded aged care services, including personal alarms through HCP, is to get assessed. You can apply for an assessment through My Aged Care’s website (www.myagedcare.gov.au) or call their contact centre on 1800 200422.

I already have a Home Care Package. Can I get a personal alarm?

Yes, if you currently have a Home Care Package, you might be eligible for a MePACS monitored personal alarm through your HCP. To learn more and find out if you're eligible, feel free to get in touch with us to discuss your situation. Having your HCP provider details ready will be helpful, as we'll need this information to evaluate your eligibility.

Can I just order an alarm through MePACS?

To apply for an HCP funded personal alarm system, you need to contact your HCP Case Manager and discuss your needs and available funding. MePACS can then assist your HCP provider with the application process.
