MePACS Emergency Response Operator, Gail, is a star – and not just to her co-workers and our valued clients. You may recognise her friendly smile and calming voice from our television and radio advertisements.
Before joining the MePACS team, Gail spent years jet-setting around the world as a flight attendant. But she decided to trade her passport for a headset, wanting to help people in their time of need. Her years of experience in customer service and handling diverse and challenging situations have made her an invaluable asset to our team.
At MePACS, Gail cherishes the personal connections she forms with clients.
“It’s interesting, I’ve spoken to clients that are over 100, and they sound so sprightly and young! I’m proud that we can offer older people support to be independent and the opportunity to stay in their own homes,” Gail shares.
MePACS sends each of our clients a card at Christmas and on their birthday, signed by all MePACS staff. Gail reflects that these small gestures have led to heart-warming interactions.
“I’ll have clients say, ‘Thank you so much. It’s my birthday, or I’m going away this weekend with my family for my birthday, and we got the card. It’s so nice to read everyone’s names’.”
Gail’s empathetic nature and quick thinking are essential in her role. She has handled various crisis situations, from assisting clients who have fallen to coordinating with emergency services for those in distress.
“The number of times I’ve seen MePACS save people or help them…We offer a wonderful service.”
An Adventurous Soul
Outside of work, Gail enjoys outdoor adventures like hiking and biking. In fact, just one week after filming the MePACS advertisement, she embarked on a challenging hike to the summit of Mount Kosciusko. She also loves cooking and trying new recipes.
“I love camping in the bush with our family and friends. I also enjoy riding my electric bike along a 50 kilometre loop through Melbourne city and back along the bay back to Brighton,” Gail shares.
As for those MePACS ads, Gail’s unexpected fame has led to some amusing encounters with friends and family.
“Out of the blue, somebody will send me a message and say ‘I just saw you on TV’. One of my friends – she’s so funny – every time she sees the ad, she does a screenshot and she sends it to me – every single time,” Gail laughs.
“I also have a friend of mine that works for Australia Post, and he sent me a message saying that not only does he see me on TV, now he is listening to me all day when he’s out and about in the car, because I’m on the radio as well.”
