When it comes to prioritising health and safety, the MePACS 24/7 emergency response team provides an exceptional duty of care to our clients.
Melissa became a Response Monitor at MePACS after almost 10 years in the travel industry and loves to connect with clients while checking in, to see if they are okay, or need help for a medical emergency.
What does a typical day involve for you?
“As a Response Monitor, my priority is to answer the alerts for help as they come through, contact them to find out what help is required and then organise the appropriate help for them. We also check-in with those who have forgotten to press their daily call button in the morning if we haven’t heard from them – and we’re always so relieved when we do!”
“We assist clients with updating their emergency contacts and putting their alarms on standby when they are away from their home. Many of them are very prompt with remembering to test their pendants each month, but sometimes we need to give them a friendly call as a reminder.”
What do you enjoy most about your role?
“I love the fact that we are fortunate enough to be in a role that feels so rewarding, knowing that we are providing vital help to our clients which enables them to maintain independence while still living at home.”
“I also like the brief moments we do get to speak to our clients – they are often very grateful to know that we are there for them when they need any help. My own dad is 76, so our clients sometimes remind me of him.”
Why did you choose to work at MePACS?
“I wanted to work at MePACS because I believe I have a warm and friendly personality and I enjoy talking to people. I wanted a job where I would feel that I am making an impact in someone’s life, no matter how small.”
What has been a highlight or memorable moment in your role?
“I’ve had a few clients say they consider us their “guardian angels” which I think is possibly the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard – to know we mean this much to them is invaluable and rewarding.”
What is your career background?
“I worked in the travel industry for almost 10 years. I started in travel reservations then moved on to sell luxury river cruises and tours to destinations all over the world such as Europe, Canada, Asia, South America, Africa and Australia. Before I came to MEPACS, I organised accommodation and transfer packages to the South Pacific Islands.”
“I was very fortunate to visit Vanuatu and Fiji and take my dad on some of the luxury river cruises in Europe. It is wonderful to have these incredible travel experiences together that we will remember forever.”
“I thoroughly enjoy my role at MePACS and it has been a really refreshing change from the travel industry, as I was ready to move onto something different.”
What do you like to do outside of work?
“I love going for walks at the beach and making resin art décor items. I’m also currently obsessed with organising anything I possibly can in my new apartment!”
