As a young polio survivor, Robyn was prone to feelings of loneliness. Thankfully, she had a supportive family.
“My father would have none of it. He would say to me ‘You are better than that. Stand tall.’ Even when I was very much an adult, he would tell me to ‘stand tall’,” she says.
It’s clear that Robyn took her father’s advice to heart and after three years of training, went on to become a registered critical-care nurse and midwife.
Following a successful clinical career, Robyn returned to University and achieved post graduate qualifications in business and education. She worked as a management consultant until her retirement.
It was following a stroke at age 64 that Robyn became a MePACS client. She is full of praise for the monitored alarm service.
“MePACS has got, without a doubt, the politest and nicest people in a call centre in this country. They never seem to be busy, even though you know they are, they’re terrific,” she shares.
“Having a MePACS alarm is such a relief.
I’d give up all of my other possessions before I gave up my MePACS alarm.”
Robyn’s life is enriched by her loving family. She is a proud mother of two sons and a devoted grandmother of six. Her family is an integral part of her life, and they too appreciate the safety and peace of mind that her MePACS alarm provides.
Robyn is committed to actively advocating for the rights of older people and those living with disability. Through her involvement in various organisations, Robyn continues to inspire others and make a positive impact on the community. Most recently, she joined the MePACS Community Advisory Group.
As Robyn puts it, “I read a lovely quote recently that ended with ‘bloom where you are planted’. I’m planted into advocacy, so I’m blooming.”
