Sandy is 55 years of age and uses her NDIS funding to help live independently in her own home in Melbourne. She has a Pacemaker as well as muscular dystrophy, so her mobility is limited and she’s prone to falls.
Sandy had to use her MePACS alarm in an emergency situation a few months ago after experiencing severe pain.
“I was experiencing severe pain in my neck and back and was also having trouble breathing. The MePACS response operator answered my call within a minute, I was so reassured to know an ambulance was on its way. They had also called my sister Brenda and she arrived shortly before the ambulance. I was taken to hospital where I stayed for the remainder of the day.
When I returned home I felt reassured that if I had any future falls I would receive help quickly. I was so relieved to hear the MePACS response monitors voice, he stayed on the phone to me until the ambulance arrived – he was wonderful!”
Sandy previously had an autodialler personal alarm, but it failed her in a time of need as it didn’t dial into her contacts when she pressed for help.
“My family, my care coordinator and I knew that I needed a service that we all could rely on. We needed reassurance that should I have another fall or need emergency help, I would receive assistance fast. This was when I took up the MePACS service, knowing that I would reach a real person anytime I needed help within 2 minutes. We were confident we could rely on the MePACS 24/7 response service.”
Sandy now has no hesitation in pressing her MePACS alarm, as it gives her peace of mind knowing someone will respond within two minutes.
“My family and I find the MePACS service very reassuring, knowing if I fall you will answer. The MePACS telephone operators are excellent and very friendly and helpful. I have a friend who also has MePACS and we regularly discuss how we feel much safer with the MePACS alarms. If I meet any who is considering purchasing a personal alarm I always direct them to MePACS as I have great reassurance that if I need help they will respond to me quickly. I have no hesitation in pressing my MePACS alarm, it gives me peace of mind knowing someone is there.”
Brenda, Sandy’s sister, also says that she feels great reassurance now Sandy has the MePACS alarm.
“It’s less responsibility on me and I don’t have to worry as much. I know that if she falls she has security the MePACS alarm and she will be looked after – I am definitely a lot calmer now.
Thank you MePACS, it’s nice to know you are there for me.”
